Is OOIDA worth joining?

I'm a company driver, so take what I say with that in mind.

If you become a member, do it for the services they provide and not their political agenda. I don't know about their services, but from scuttlebutt it's at the very least worth looking into. Drug testing likely makes it worth it.

Their political arm though, is annoying. They keep fighting the wrong battles. For example they keep fighting to get ELD's removed (or before, not required). What they should be fighting for is reasonable HOS...

 

I am a member and in the consortium. They have been very helpful and knowledgeable the few times I have called over the years. I will be a member as long as I am O/O.

 

For me, it has been worth it. Don't know if I will do a second year or not.

They have a number that when you call, someone will answer and try to get someone on the line to help with your questions.

I do picture their office full of cats and people in pajamas, based off previous phone calls.

 

Replace cats with dogs and sounds like a dream gig and it would only make them better in my eyes! Happy workers produce better results.

 

Dint see them fight while company drivers were losing per diem

I’m glad to see this thread. I have memberships in both NASTC and OOIDA. I’ve been thinking about dropping nastc and using ooidas consortium instead. But, I haven’t seen any benefit to the ooida membership. Their discounts are mostly for products out of my league.

I am willing to support a good cause, but i need to see some value to justify the expense. To further the ops post, please tell us what benefits you’ve received from the ooida membership...other than the shiny stickers and extra card in your wallet.

 

Owner Operators didn't lose per diem. They are OOIDA, not CDIDA.

 

The DAT discount I receive as a member, more than covers the annual membership fee.
