    Yes, yes they are.
Just thought I would answer the OP's question. And IMHO, they are a traffic hazard.

Basically, if you want to go through Prime,Werner, or any other big outfit for training to get your cdl, over the road training, and 1-2 years under your belt, go for it. Keep your nose clean for those first couple of years, and then when you get a chance, go to a smaller company where you will not be a number,(hopefully)you'll be treated far better, run more high mileage freight that can make you get good pay and more frequent hometime(especially if you live near the I-70/80/90 fright lanes, yeah you'll still run to the northeast, but you'll bounce back outta there to the Midwest where the running is better.). I would definitely not recommend large mega-reefer companies like prime, us express and their ilk to work as an experienced company driver since you'll be competing with trainers and lease-ops for freight, at least reefer , maybe the tanker and flatbed divisions of these outfits might go better, but there are other smaller companies that respect and really want to keep accident -free veteran drivers, without the micromanagement, failure-prone safety gadgets, and better equipment once you get experience.

As for anyone thinking of lease-purchasing, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT EVEN THINK of it. Especially if you have just started driving solo. I have someone in the family who does the books for a construction/end-dump trucking company, and she will tell you first hand that it is a scam, nothing more. You are not working in the same capacity as an owner operator, and you are not buying a truck like the ads from l.p. companies like prime, trans am, kllm, etc suggest. You are merely renting that truck, and they will soak you with such a huge bloated weekly payment that you cant even afford to be home with your family, even for a day. That phrase "no credit check and no down payment required!!" that some ads scream is an obvious sign to steer clear of it. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE. Never mind these corporate cheerleaders who trump how great they are doing on L.P. programs.. they are probably the only few even making it. Be warned, and if they pressure you, RESIST.

Ironpony you said 62/58 but some are lower because they are trying to help a leadfoot with his fuel economy.

    1. How can you be a leadfoot at 62mph?
    2. How can a person feel he is in charge of his truck and business if the company dictates acceptable fuel economy? Does a l/p pay for his fuel.
Here is why I ask- I passed a Prime truck that was barely doing 55 in a 70 zone. He pulled into a truck stop to get fuel as I prepared to leave.I asked him why he was going so slow and he told me he was behind in lease payment, hadn't had a check in two weeks and needed to save fuel. I have passed many Prime trucks going that slow. So my opinion, right or wrong, is that it's just a bunch of drivers stuck in a bad lease.

...well my friend there are certain indicators that don't need facts or clues and that is called carma ,it's pretty basic if you are a rotten corporation that lies ,steals, destroys families, has a bad reputation in business,....
You can bet your day is in store

I for one hate darkness and those who try to protect it from being exposed ....it is a god given right to expose the darkness wherever it hides not only that but to also lay a curse on it as it runs away from the light so it will not return or be able to contin it's work ....this is done only in the name of JESUS

When you say "they will starve you for miles" how many miles will the company driver get that it is considered "being starved for miles"?

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
