Sure. Mind you I have only had contact we 3 companies. Swift, Werner, & Covenant. I have attempted to contact Knight by way of Squire (their training company), but have not heard back. Swift is simply my choice as of now. Swift pays $450 a week during training weeks 1-4, then $500 a week for 5-6. You start at .25 per mile and get 5 raises within the first year. At the end of the year you are at .32 per mile. You are eligible for benefits after 60 days. Werner pays $350 a week during training. They do pay a $500 bonus if you agree to complete all of your training in one shot, and you are also eligible for benefits after 30 days. These were two little perks that the recruiter impressed me with, but from there I got a very "take it or leave it" feeling. When asked about pay per mile, he would not give a number. He said there were 17 different pay scales. When I asked about the negative comments and videos on the internet about his company he dismissed them as "all being former employees that had been fired". Covenant had a very respectable presentation when the recruiter came and spoke. Their training pay is comparable with with Swift, as is their CPM, but they run teams only in my region (Las Vegas). I'd prefer to run solo. Based on this. Swift is my choice at the moment. I am have another week or so to decide for sure. I hope that answers your question and would welcome any feedback.
Also... I forgot to mention I did stop in at a Pilot and had a good chat with a Swift driver who had been with them for 11 years. He was pleased with the company and gave me some good starter advice.
Still 25 a mile ? i started at 23 in 1/98 i figured it would be better. Take a look at Schnieder that ought to round out the mix
That is true but you do get several raises over your first year, most of them in the first 6 months. I went with them because I did my research and thought they had the best deal on company school and I had no cash to pay for it myself. Overall I have been happy with that choice and am getting $.34 cpm now and due up for a raise to $.35 soon. Almost all my miles are east so I'm using that number. They do have lots of freight and will keep you moving if you are a hard worker and keep your record clean. They also have lots of dedicated work you might be able to get into in the future if thats what you want. Like any company they are far from perfect however and are out to make a buck. It's really just a question of what flavor of BS do you prefer and I stay because at least I know what flavor I'm getting. Just remember all these recruiters are getting paid to talk you into going with them so of course they will tell you its all sunshine and rainbows. I would suggest checking out each companies forum on this site if you have not. Don't know about the others but the Swift forum is pretty active and has plenty of posts covering the good the bad and the ugly.
Three preachers died and went to heaven. While waiting for St. Peter to let them in a SWIFT and J.B. HUNT driver show up and St. Peter makes the preachers step aside. This baffled the preachers so they asked. " We've been preaching the good word our whole life, and you make us step aside and let these truckers in before us?" St. Peter replied, "In their first year of driving they have scared "the hell" out of more people then you ever preached to."
I don't know if USXPress has a program for new drivers but, if they do, I'd look into them seriously. I'm a rookie driver (18 months...still a rookie in my opinion) but I've had no problem with USXpress drivers out here.
