Swift requires so many months as a company driver before being a mentor

With your experience behind the wheel Swift would probably let you begin to mentor after maybe 6 months or less, depending on your understanding of the Swift system and being comfortable with the qualcomm.

    No ... Swift requires experience.

I was asked to be a mentor after I was here for 60 days and I've never been a company driver.

While student is in the truck you get paid all miles the truck runs. After student upgrades, you get paid .o1 per mile that he runs with certain limits for a specified time. I am not sure of the limits or time since I never desired to mentor. The limits have to do with a maximum number of miles the upgraded student runs that they will pay you for.

It is why I stopped doing it, that and being a L/O, lose .05/mi for all miles that they drive, and another .09/mi for all miles over 11K for the month

some who mentor make ok money, you figure not every trainee will even stick it out, most are not that experienced so the miles they drive wont always be good. Some get "tired" and want to quit after an 8hr day...

My mentor said I was one of his best drivers, I would always go close to 600 miles a day and he said a lot of his students would be "tired" way before then. If you get lucky and get good students back to back then you can make more money. Get a really bad one and then your truck is still running "solo" at whatever speed the guy goes. I know some mentors complain about bad shifters, bad drivers etc.
