KLLM is mostly reefr. It is a little bit more responsibility, only that you must keep an eye on the temps. On produce loads we must do a qualcom temp call every four times a day. So you get out, check the reefr setting and reading, and also take a temp at the back door.

Some complain about the reefr running noise, but it drowns out all the other TS noises that might keep you awake.

We never load or unload. If we are required to unload then there are always lumpers to pay. And the company pays them, not us. We go in, get a cost for the load size, then send a macro for the cost, they load our comdata card, and we write a comdata check. Then include the lumper receipt when scanning the bills.

Not really much of a hassle.

You have to make sure it stays in operation, and it is more than keeping fuel in it, they do break down, and they do use oil and leak coolant, and the refrigerant can also leak out. More than once, I have had a long trip fouled up by a reefer needing repair, and it's not always something you can do, sometimes, you need to take it to a dealer for service.

    Ding ding!

1:15 am, trainer in the bunk. I see a yellow light on the trailer. Being new i did not know if that was for defrosting or something else. It was yellow, not red...

I kept driving for 15 minutes. then woke up my trainer and pulled over. we got out, checked the control unit. It said, "failed to restart".

we called road breakdown. next repair center was 220 miles ahead, we were hauling ice cream, so that was not do-able.

Closest repair was only 10 miles back! We tell breakdown we will go there.

so 15 minutes later we get there, of course it is not open. Trainer goes back to bed, I wait up for the tech, and wait, and wait. two hours later we call breakdown, and he says, "oh, are you there yet?"

It was ten freakin miles! YES WE ARE THERE!!!!!!!

"ok, I'll call them and get someone out there"

but that is just some normal days in trucking.... heheheheee

You'll pay a lot more lumpers hauling temp control than van.

And a serious answer to your stupid question....

Customer order freight. Shipper loads truck with customer's freight. Truck driver hauls customer's freight to the customer. Customer charges truck driver to unload their own freight...

Now to put it in stupid terms....

Would you pay the UPS delivery driver $50 or more to hand you a package you have ordered & already paid for shipping?

What does that mean customer charges truck driver to unload their own freight, isn't it the shipper charges the customer for the freight?

Actually would you demand the UPS driver pay you to bring your package into your house?

    Joetro Thanks this.
