Is the Penske used truck warrantee worth anything at all? No.

Think about this: When you buy a Penske used truck, the company provides a 15 day warrantee. Those 15 days are useless as you cannot legally put the truck on the road without your 2290 forms being submitted to the government and returned to you...which takes quite a lot more than 15 days. So....legally, your "new" Penske truck is sitting in your yard. Once you get your tax paperwork back and drive it, your warrantee is long expired.
I purchased a used Penske from the Albuquerque location. Even though they claim they service the truck, that the tires will be good etc. this did not happen. One of the double air filters was missing entirely. The remaining filter was totally clogged. The auto tranny had old, burned fluid in it. The engine oil was super black. They did NOTHING to make this truck ready to go.
I did not discover these things until the "warrantee" period was up. The truck had less than 400 miles on it when I returned to the Albuquerque Penske shop. I proved it had not been on the road. Drive tires shredded in the first 80 miles of driving the truck. We put all new drivers on, had to do a full service, fix the jake brake and more. They talked a good game, including their district manager who then never returned promised phone calls and did not answer his cell.
The Penske used truck warrantee is a ripoff. No more Penske trucks for me.

 

Actually, yes. I did look at the truck. They were about to do the required maintenance on it and the young man I spoke to told me what all they would be doing. However, I had to pay for it. Moreover, their website lists the variety of work to be done based upon the Penske classification of truck. They have three: Classification 1: you are on your own. No guarantees. Nada.
Classification 2: The truck is certified to be in good operating condition, with decent, DOT legal tires and brakes, serviced etc.
Classification 3: In this case it is built upon Classification 2 and includes additional work such as removing body marks, a repaint things like that.
All I could do is look at the truck before buying it and be assured it would go through their system (it was a classification 2 truck although that is my terminology. They call them Proven and Premium for level 2 and 4, I don't recall what they call Class 1)
I have purchased one other Penske truck out of Las Vegas. It ran like a champ and continues to, to this day.
That you ASSUME I didn't do my due diligence etc. is pretty short sighted of you. But, you go on with your bad self. The reality is that the Penske warrantee is totally worthless and based upon your inability to actually use the truck while waiting for 2290's to be completed, they shouldn't mislead consumers with this false crap. There is no warrantee.

 

Yes. My first one was fine as well. The second is running ok but I had to fix issue after issue. Penske did not stand behind it at all, even after admitting it was not handled correctly. My point is their so called warrantee is not worth the paper its written on.

 

I was unaware of that. Thank you. My brother files our truck taxes. He is obviously not checking for options. I've told him many times there must be some other way to do it but he has insisted there is not. I appreciate the tip. M.
