Is the worst local job better than the best OTR job?

It gets tiring after a while. I work as a temp driver for a company with about 100 customers, I specialise in heavy haul stuff, like metal forming dies. I start the week off fresh and happy, end it tired and ready for a rest. Today I hauled 350k of metal in 6 trips and it was tiring by noon because of traffic and idiots in the traffic.

 

Personal opinion based on my experience; local sux & I love coast-to-coast & border-to-border.

 

My parking space is always waiting for me, with plug in for block heater.....

Never wait for a shower .... And if it's dirty it's my fault......

And I don't eat at subway 15 times a week.......

For me it works....

Nah. Just 14 times a week. 15 is far too many!

 

I was OTR for a while, then regional for a bit longer. Finally got pissed at company and quit, without a job to go to. (Not something I'd advise most folks to do, but in my situation, I could afford it, no matter how it worked out.) Anyway, turned in my road tractor in Denver on Friday. Buy the next Thursday, I was working a local P & D here in SW Utah, and home every night. Sure, there were some long days, but I always had weekends and holidays off.
HOWEVER, what LB said in post 27 is very true. It is tough on your body. Particularly if that body is old and out of shape from being on the road. You don't bounce back as quick in your 60's as you do in your 20's.
But even with the physical problems, (I got hurt a few times,) I still liked the outfit I worked for, and overall, the job.
It really does depend on the individual.

In my earlier years,, as a mechanic, the owner of the garage used to say, irregardless, and I too told him way too many times it was not a word, and even went so far as to bring my big Websters to the shop (we had no pc's back in the day)

Irregardless to what I had told him over and over again, he would still irregardlessly use the word irregardless.

The day I talked him into buying a portable alignment machine, he listened, irregardless of past conversations.
