Is there a "BUFFER" to get to the next truck stop when the driving as no more hours ?

    There is a 2 hr buffer only for “adverse” driving conditions such as unexpected weather or a crash. You are still not allowed to go over your 14 hr clock and you must still comply with the 30 min rest break. The regulation is 395.1(b)

    Make sure you make a note on your log with some specifics if you use this exception.

    Regarding shipping delays if I’m short on time I talk to the shipper right away and let them know what’s up. Depending on where it is you may not want to overnight there even if it is allowed. East St Louis, Detroit, South Chicago, etc. Reschedule if you have to.

    The rule was changed in 2015 to include the 14 in the exemption. See the referenced rule in the previous posts.

    you eld guys are logging all this "trip planning" on line 4 right? i don't need to be on the road with some unsafe overworked guy that did all this pre planning off the clock.

    You do know there is only so much planning a person can do, if you have 2 hours left why the hell would you stop? How is it your fault if you're held up at an accident for an hour and a half?
