I went to renew my physical in November and she found sugar in my pee nd my BP was a little high so I only got a three month card which expires on February 20. I couldn’t get into see my GP until December 28 and he put me on another blood pressure med and ran labs including an A1C which proved that I do not have diabetes so I don’t even know where that sugar came from. I plan to get home around 15 February which will give me five days to go back to get my physical re-done and a one year card. If I go see a doctor at one of these Petro clinics while I’m on the road will they know about my earlier visit where I got the three month card and the sugar in my pee? Would it even matter? Are those petro doctors any good or would they try to get me to do a sleep study if I went to see one? I did bring a copy of all my labs with me just in case.

Of course there is, go to the fmcsa site and you can find a list of them.

You can go to one of those petro clinics. It does not have to be the same Doctor. They do frown on Doctor shopping but that is when you go to multiple Doctors within a short time period, like the same day or couple of days. Also would be a good idea for you to talk with whatever Doctor you choose first before they do the exam because if they start it and you fail because you don't have something they want you will not be able to drive. Wouldn't want that to happen while stuck at a petro somewhere. Best wishes to you!

I think probably what he meant was "can a new Doctor see what was on your last physical". In other words, do Doctors put your physical up on a national database. The answer to that is no they don't. It would break the HIPAA privacy laws.

Maybe you might try reading the text of my post. The common database I was referring to was medical info on drivers seeking medical cards. Basically if you are failed by one do the others know it.

Drs are required to file DOT physicals with fmsca. However you were given a three mo.card. You may now go to any Dr. for next physical. Doesn’t mean you’re Dr. shopping just means you didn’t care for last Dr. or are in a different area etc.I had a similar situation a few yrs ago. Found out that Drs have discretion as to wether a 3,6,12 mo. Cert. is given. I found these guidelines on line.
