I clear about a grand a week, after switching to local hourly work where I work lotsa OT.
when I worked for an OTR mega carrier 700 was a good week....MidwestResident and truckon Thank this. -
My .02 cents worth, if there was a drivers shortage, you would be able to find a parking place at night and this industry would not have the parking problems it has....
Highway Sailor and MidwestResident Thank this. -
Sleep and rest is required by law in order to perform the job, as well as you are away from home not able to do your own thing. 10 hours goes by so fast your lucky if you have time to eat and shower before hitting the sack. now a 34 hour restart is a little different but your still away from home.MidwestResident Thanks this.

When the 8 hour break changed to 10 hours on Jan 2004, I was happy.Canned Spam and MidwestResident Thank this.

If anyone thinks there's a driver shortage, come to schneider on Mondays. Lol...2 bus loads of new drivers.
truckon Thanks this. -
I think that's more of a reflection of the decreasing availability of affordable land for things like truckstops and rest areas especially out east. And it seems like this mainly is an East Coast thing, I almost never had trouble finding parking when I drove Western 11
-
then in all frankness, you don't know how to drive here in the east..
one that DOES, KNOWS when he/she had better be IN THE TRUCK STOP at or before a particular time. i never have or had any problems finding parking.Highway Sailor Thanks this. -
and thank god for that.
Shippers, Recievers, dispatchers etc are not always willing to cater to YOUR schedule to make loads, being able to find parking easy increases your ability to roll miles.
There are certain truck stops out west where one can always just count on parking being available. I don't think I ever ran out of hours looking for parking, or spent much time looking for it. -
well as a driver, you should be able to handle life on the road. it's all a part of the "learning experience", so if you care not to drive here good for you, as many others will and make a decent pay on top of that. i have seen too many cry babies screaming bloody tears that they miss thier home area, and cannot take the conditions here. yet, they called themselves drivers.???
yes, too and i fully agree, that i too have had shippers hold off a load for one reason or another...and it does stink, but what to do?
one simply takes it and moves on.
and a word to the wise, it is never YOUR SCHEDULE, it will always be thiers....
