Is this a DOT violation?

    Good rule of thumb is this: If its attached to the truck, it should be operational. Don't give the ol' DOT-Dawg a reason to stop you. Like someone already said, this particular item may not be a violation but it might lead to something else.

    No, I had a truck that just went through a L1 this morning and they gave it a sticker, but it has two spot mirrors busted by some container truck running next to him on the GWB. We lose more mirror there than any other place.

    Id just take it off and replace it as quickly as is possible- especially on the right side, you need it.. D.O.T. always told me "If its on the truck, it has to work".

    I’d buy one of those little sticky mirrors and stick it on the big one and replace the other at your earliest convenience.

    You don't need a mirror, heck most of the drivers out here don't even use them!!

    They see me comin, but wait until I'm 10' off their ICC bumper before pulling out into my lane! AAARRRGGGGG!

    §393.9(a) All lamps required by this subpart shall be capable of being operated at all times. This paragraph shall not be construed to require that any auxiliary or additional lamp be capable of operating at all times.
