It’s a dd15 2020. A tech noticed oil leaking from the oil return so I replaced the tube. Now I’m thinking an overfill or two could’ve created the leak and I may have just needed a gasket but that’s another story. Tried soap and water and did remove some of it but not all.

@Tug Toy makes a good point. That DD15 turbo ain't cheap like my 700$ 60 Series turbo. I change mine often just cause it's cheap enough to make it a PM item. Not so on these newer engines

That's bone dry. If you open it up and see liquid puddles keep an eye on it. I tried for a warranty repair on a new cummins but was denied. They wanted to see oil that would pour out if you tipped the bellow. Said I should stop idling. I keep an eye on it but hasn't gotten worse in 200k.

If the drain had anything to do obstructed at all it would leak out the o ring and push past the shaft seal real easy…. I stand by my original assessment. Clean er up a bit and check a couple times over the next 5k miles…. Should be able to just pull the hot side pipe lose and check… if it continues to be that bad I would schedule a new turbo install… if it starts to clear up I would keep an eye on it but not worry to much…

That’s going to be rough on after treatment if it still exists too..

Appreciate the responses. Only thing is is I can’t see not replacing the boots new and checking. Should be a simpler process examination. Else again thx for the thoughts.

I'm not familiar with the DD series of engines but almost all newer emission engines route the crankcase vent back into the intake on the inlet side of the turbo.

If it does I'd be checking on that before I point fingers at a turbo or valve seals.
