You can keep 100 "duplicate" log books if you want to take the time to fill them all out, and as long as the graph grid shows that you recorded your time the same on each of them, there is nothing the DOT (or anybody else, for that matter) can do about it. In fact, in certain situations, the FMCSA regulations actually REQUIRE that you keep multiple RODS reports...such as if you are employed by more than one motor carrier. You are required to submit an ORIGINAL log sheet to EACH carrier, with that carrier's information (name/address/etc) written in the appropriate spaces. Your time will be logged the same on all of them, with the only difference allowed being if the graph needed to be shifted due to time zone differences at the different carrier home offices.
The only time you'll get in trouble having more than one log book is if they DON'T match.
Is this app DOT acceptable?

I use this app for keeping track of my HOS. Just this last week I received permission from my employer to submit my log sheets/DVIR's in the printed form. So what I do is print out each morning 2 copies of the last days log/DVIR sheet and one copy goes into my daily log notebook and one copy into the folder I turn in each week to my employer. I have yet to be asked by any DOT officer since I started using this app but I run into Canada each day and don't need any headaches from that. Better to print then just hand them my phone if asked, at least in my opinion.
j76ny Thanks this. -
I hope you got the right answer already. I didn't want to read through 5 pages. As long as you can print off copies when asked and you are current in the app you are legal till they change the rules again. This implies that you need to have a printer in the truck because the DOT are under no obligation to allow you to use theirs.

Most of the companies that use elogs still don't have a printer in truck. They still have to fax copies to DOT.
So in reality those apps are about ss good as those costly units that companies provide. -
