Thanks for all the help, looking at Stevens and FFE online right now. I get home from Afghanistan in a week and few days, and like I said I don't get out till a year from this month. Would it be too soon to start getting things lined out and trying to find the best company?
And I am not re-upping with the Army, I have been doing R&U this whole deployment because I opened my big mouth and I have been the busiest guy on the FOB for the last 10 months. Which it made the deployment fly by so I guess I can't complain. I still got to go out on a few missions and I had the freedom to do as I pleased cause the CSM loved me. But still, the Army is only for a certain few for a career anyways.
If I did the O/O thing my repairs would be at the house and not in a Flying J parking lot, unless I broke down while on the road. i am just talking about doing maintenance and an overhaul as needed myself, instead of paying upwards of $25,000 for some repower company to get rich off me.
Is this business really that bad??

Trucking is lots of hours for very low pay.
Try to do something else. -

Well with you're HVAC experience, you can always try trucking out and see if you like it alright. If for some reason you find it's not for you, at least you have a career to fall back on. It's always good to have options.

I just wanted to say good luck to whatever you decide on JPalmer and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!! Drifter, that is an awesome signature. A lesson many have yet to learn.

Like any other business, you wouldn't just jump in blindly. You wouldn't buy a jet and own an airline if you didn't know how to fly would you? Take things one step at a time. Get your license, drive company for at least a year and see where you stand. You may find you will make more as a company driver. If your figures work out for the best then decide from there if buying a truck is worth your time and money. During this time as a company driver and your learning process stash away as much $$$ as you can. The more back-up you have the better chance of survival out there.
Good luck...nicholas_jordan Thanks this. -
Didn't plan on jumping right in to anything, I stated a couple times I planned on driving company for at least a year before I made any decisions. I wouldn't just go out and buy a truck, that is just my long term goal if it works out. i know O/O or L/O isn't for everyone and for some guys just being a company driver works for them, it may for me. We shall see. -
Just a statement, didn't quote you on anything...
