I worked for PTL. I wanted to go to a regional or go local so I could be home more. I was going to turn in a two week notice but before I could I brought my truck in for repairs. I was waiting around because it wasnt supposed to take long. The shop called me and told me to come get my stuff out of the truck. I asked why they told me that I no longer worked for them. What the h&//? I was told later it was because someone called to check my reference.

That's common. I've worked for companies that fired any driver that was looking for a new job.
If the new company hires you and asked why you were fired, tell them you were fired because you turned in a verbal two week notice.

It happens. Tells a lot about the company.
Best to take it as a good thing and move on.

It happens. They get rid of drivers as fast as they bring them in.

Yeah, the truck was in the yard. Better to do it now than risk you bailing out somewhere and abandoning the tuck somewhere a week down the road.

Always do whats best for you. Dont give a two week notice, just quit when you go in for Hometime and then get a new job.

That all says volumes for this Industry. We really need a rating system for Drivers to use when considering Employers. A DAC type system to expose bad work ethics.

What happened if OP didn't get the new job though? This is so ####ty that employers can do this to employees. A #### shame.

So do most people really not give a 2 weeks notice?

I've never left a job without giving at least 2 weeks, once I even gave a months notice.

    FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
