He'll have a new job within 24 hours.
In trucking most drivers don't give a notice because trucking companies have a bad reputation for either firing the driver when he give notice or putting something on his DAC that's hard to disprove.

And people wonder why truck drivers get treated like #### .......
I recently put my notice in because I need to be home every day instead of every other and guess what....they found enough work to keep me in the building daily, acting like an adult enabled me to keep my 90k/yr job.....maybe I should have just stopped showing up tho....

Nope and they wonder why they get treated like children and fired if it's found out they are looking for another job.

The exception would be the smaller companies, but Giving a two week notice to a mega wont get you any brownie points, doing so they have been known to have you drop off the truck 1000 miles from your home twenty just to make you sweat.

I believe in giving a notice. But not all employers play fair. The last one I had ever leased to, I found out, liked to screw O/Os out of their last settlement check. Having seen this happen too often, I sat home, told them my Truck was in the Shop, and I needed more $$$ to get it fixed. Once I got all my $$$ owed. I quit. They were very Mad at Me.Too bad. They got some of their own medicine. Just what they deserved.

yes, it IS common..since you are looking for another job, they figure you ain't happy, so GOOD-BYE

in the future, just say to the interviewer, "please do not call, cuz the last time i was looking for a job, they found out and they fired me on the spot"..

or if you are just submitting an online application, where ever there may be a "explain or comments space", say it there.

i have said it before, and i'll say it again, i. never. gave. any. notice....

i figured that they will "notice", that i was gone....and i always got jobs.

there is no loyalty anymore like the olden days.. i was "laid off" with out notice from employers on pay day...one time, during the week..

where was "my 2 weeks notice" those times..???

if they cannot respect the worker, they will not be respected. (not including the equipment or customers, those things were always respected)

This sort of thing became popular for companies in the IT world back in the mid '00's for a while. If you gave notice that you were leaving they would "walk you out" that day. The rationale was, or so it was explained to me by a manager, is that they didn't want you on the system any longer if you intended to leave b/c of the potential security risks. I pointed out to the manager that told me this that in most cases I've known I was leaving likely well before the time I got around to notifying you of my departure. If I was going to do something to the systems I'd do it well before I told you I was quitting otherwise I just become the primary suspect after the fact.

The real reason companies do this is b/c people in management can be just as unprofessional and immature as anyone else so often this kind of behavior is purely about being punitive. For this reason one of my best friends who's actually a business PhD and teaches MBA level classes has told me for years not to bother giving two weeks notice. The original rational behind giving two weeks notice came about back in the days of the industrialization of America and the idea was that your employer would have a week to find your replacement and then a week to bring them on and have you train them out on the shop floor. That obviously hasn't been the way things are done for quite some time so this intractable notion that you must give two weeks notice is probably outdated.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree w/ either approach in particular. I personally have never left a job w/ out giving notice, though I've been pissed off enough to consider it on a few occasions. But I can see where both sides have merit in today's world.

I really hate the double standard that exists in employment. I have been laid off more than once, and they never gave me a 2 week notice. I have been fired, never given a 2 week notice. But god forbid i should want to leave the job on my own , for some reason im supposed to give them a 2 week notice.....never made sense to me.
