Just take a little road trip in your own personal vehicle.

    Drive 10 hour days,

sleep in rest areas, or truck stop parking lots.

    Shower at truckstops.

    Eat at the truckstops.

    Get the idea............?

They could do it expediting . Most run a month or so then take a week off . When they are ready to take a week off they look for a load headed to the area they'd like to spend a week in . Many are husband and wife teams and don't worry about hometime

Mental images of what we do out here on the road sure are messed up. IT'S A JOB ! Not a grand tour at your leisure.

There is the all work and no play thing, but most would rather be home with people they know fishing and the such.

There was a time when you could goof off once in awhile. Find some place to park and sight see. It can still be done but out on the road if there is an extra day here or there one should be using it to get things like laundry, some maintenance or much needed rest for the next go-around.

If you like, no LOVE chasing sunrises and sunsets trucking can do that.

You do have periods of time to kill but aren't always in a good location to do much fishing. On his downtime my son practices playing his guitar, gets out his RC car and runs it around the parking lots or watches movies on his laptop. One time he was parked next to a stream and if he had a pole would have tried his luck, but you need a fishing license for whatever state you happen to be in.There is no such thing as a uniform fishing license that's good in all states.

That is the SECOND craziest idea I've ever heard...

The first, involved edible panties and alligator clips attached to a car battery....

    thats a good idea...

Ive only been driving six months so cant really make an as informed view as some of the senior guys on here...but that said...i find trucking OTR to be like a different world , your stuck in your truck day after day, travvelling from one pee smelling truck stop to another, and one rude ignorant shipper to another, you see ppl in cars...couples..families...all having a life, going shopping, dinner , heck even going home to a real bed at night...but oh not the trucker, he is out on the road on his own nobody for company but a wifi connection and a blue parrot head set..

so then you drop your load..and park up....waiting...waiting...waiting...
beep! goes the quallcomm and you start the whole process again...and again...and again, until one day you get to go home..thats pretty much it..i have not glorified it.

now if your single and dont plan on/want to start a relationship then go for it, drive for a bit and see the country...however if you are married or even if you have someone at home who you like to spend your life with, then please seek alternative choices that you may enjoy that may keep you home...

If it wasnt for missing my family...I'd LOVE this job....

anyway enough from me...i just got a beep and it time to repeat!

First thing you want to do is read every word on every forum that you can. Your questions indicate a lack of basic knowledge about the new trucking industry. Pick two or three starter companies and read everything you can from the newbies that went through training and orientation, and the experienced drivers. You should educate yourself first--your questions will be much more focused then.

    Good luck to you.

I think these delusional expectations are coming from the recruiters! They paint such a pretty picture of over the road life to get these guys to sign on the dotted line! Kind of like a Naval recruiter, they always tell you that you could be stationed in Hawaii or some tropical island!
