What do you mean you went to private school before ? Did you have a CDL before, why did you lose it ?

Hello.. I was reading this thread, because I was looking for some info on Swift. Right now I'm in school with 6 weeks to go before I graduate. A Swift recruiter was in giving their presentation to us three weeks ago and made the statement that they could hire all 24 of us to drive as soon as we passed our DOT roadtest.
To be honest I wasn't really impressed with them, and I really didn't like the Werner recruiter's presentation the week after. As he did his presentation and questions were being asked of him.....I kept getting the feeling that he wasn't giving us the 'Whole' story so to speak. As a Newbie....is this the way it is in the industry? Talk is pretty cheap, and I don't need to end up sitting somewhere like mamicman27 waiting for a load.

I did have it yes, I never lost it. When I was ready to dive into the industry everyone I talked to said I needed to redo school bc I hadn't driven in ten years. So, I found a company that paid for it. All the other companies I called said they don't pay for school.

Just find a different job and stiff Swift on paying back school if you have to. You can get that removed from your credit via bankruptcy if it comes down to it.

Of course since you did receive the training from them you should make EVERY effort to pay them back, but if it comes down to your family being taken care of and paying Swift back then you do what you have to do to take care of your own.

I would secure another job before leaving just in case they trash your DAC- you should have plenty of time to look for another job with all the sitting you are doing.

    mamicman27 Thanks this.

Yes, I plan to find employment while still working for them and I do have every intention of paying them back. I just can't live on this. They will get paid much faster if I could just start actually making anything!

I spend some money on food but mostly i eat snacks and cup-noodle that i already have on my truck bc i'm usually sitting where there isn't anything available. It's my paystubs i'm getting my income amounts from. I give everything to my wife to pay our storage unit and get minor things like cat food. I get $0.30 cpm and all I do is sit. I've noticed on some runs my cpm goes down too. I've only gotten two layover payments since i started and my first per deim payment, ever, of $20 for two weeks out

These mega carriers are making more money by putting you guys through there schools, and then dumping you, so, you have to pay for there training. I just cant believe how many dumb people fall for this. Take the written exam, find someone with a truck, take the driving test. Find a small company, go to work.

    mamicman27 and RickG Thank this.
