I'm still waiting to hear from the original poster. Were they from Ozark? My foot still hasn't healed right from snapping my Achilles chasing down the driver that ripped off my mirror at the J in Carlisle back in June. That driver never even looked in his mirrors as he drove away. Had he, he would have seen me running after him. I've got a huge scar, I'm in pain, can't walk right, and lost $150 worth of gear out of the truck I had recovered because I couldn't drive it back to the terminal.

I think this post here just proves it's never worth it.

Either the guy stops and you exchange information (or maybe take an under the table payoff, it's not my buisness how you handle it) or you report it as a hit and run to the cops.

9 times out of 10 you can get the phone # for a national carrier. Call their safety dept and say: "yeah I didn't get the rig number, but I have a time and a location and two responding officers filing a report."

Probably will fall through the cracks and never get "solved" but as one cynic put it, "that's what the insurance is for." And at least you won't be injured from running across a lot.
