We use 4 chains and 5 straps. no X chains on the front and rear though. Can damage the lip of the fifth wheel plate and gouge up aluminum trailers. we run 4 chains like a v on the 4 corners. then straps over the top and middle trailer.

I "X" chains on the front and back then two chains (one on both sides) running from the top trailer front corner through the second to the main deck pulling backwards then the same for the rear two chains but pulling forward. Then straps. If you use the fore/aft chains like I do just make sure you wrap one time around the spools on the second trailer. This will keep a good bite on the middle trailer but also be loose enough for the binder to pull the whole chain tight. Theres never such a thing as to much securement.

X chain front top trlr to bottom and I throw x chains in the back as well. Then 3 straps over middle trlr and 5 or 6 over the top
