The pay is really not that bad. Figure that if the student is qood, and catches on quick and is able to run full team after the 50 hours, and the miles are there, then their weekly pay will be more than the original salary pay. It also depends on what their state minimum wage is. Figure that in one week they drive 55 hours and sit waiting for loading and unloading about 10 hours, their pay would be more than that weekly. Keep in mind, no matter what, they are still going to drive 240 hours. They just have to hope that after the 50 hours, they are good enough that can full team and the loads are there.

$9 for 8hrs of driving that can't be right I thought they paid min wage now I would call pay roll and check that has to be wrong.hell when I did training it was $500 first 2 weeks $600 rest of training.

You must drive 240hrs the onduty time does not count u want to save as much time as you can only log on duty as as long as u need to DOT states u must log on duty at shipper if in side warehouse not in your sleeper like Swift says.

yes the new gay policy states u must log the whole time on duty at shipper unless u leave the property but we all know a shipper is not going to allow that at a live unld few maybe but not many.

i have not and will not log the whole time I log 10-15 min no more unless they say u will be paid from the min u arrive, this is not A DOT mandate like they are making out to be just refuse can't fire us all for not logging it. They also can't prove u stayed or left so F that my time not there's to tell me what to do unless they pay me.

That makes more sense. If you can average driving 8 hours every day, that with you on duty time, then the pay for a student is really not that bad. I hear the frustration.

Ya that sounds much better but remember when u get out there u might not make much some drivers do good others don't biggest key to the whole thing is a good DM and run hard and it can get better loads show the planners what u can do. Good luck out there be safe

Be carefull with the whole showing them "What you can do" thing.
It has become very popular with big fleets to go through their new hires and fire a few of the ones that are "showing what they can do" just to prove to the DOT that they are focused on keeping drivers compliant and within the law.

Trainee pay is weird sucks but at least your getting paid. How's the old adage go if you wanna make a million dollars in trucking start with two million. Maybe I just don't care cause all I got is my own food and a 50 Ullar phone bill to worry about. But hey at least they throw that extra buck an hour on there and to be honest you making a decent starting wage cause you figure you run maybe 50I miles an an hour at .25 a mile that's like 12a an hour so in reality your making a beginners wage like you would almost any other job you have no experience in. But you could run more then 40me in a weeks time if your smart

Yeah , driving down the road is $12 an hour . Sitting waiting to load or unload or waiting for a load pays $0 an hour . How does that average out ?
It's great you with no bills think $.25 a mile is great . It lets your bottom feeder carrier go to a private fleet paying drivers with families $.40 a mile and more and tell them to sell their trucks and put their drivers out the door because they can move their product cheaper with a dedicated account .

I didn't say I agree with how they do it. Swift is the ####### walmart of trucking company's pay isn't great but its a ###### job and when you loading or unloading can't you get detention pay? Id love to work another carrier make .50 a mile but im new gotta work my way up from nothing. Its not a job for everyone and most of us should know this. Im home sick like a mother ###### and I've only been gone a month but I buck up bottom feeder company or not welcome to america.

You get detention pay after 2hrs not after u arrive and it does not start counting until appointment time but while u are unld or ld u go into sleeper unless they say u need to stay inside and wait which some do but most don't.

if u spend ur time onduty at a shipper trust me u wont be get making much specially when u stay at a shipper 12hrs then have to park and take your 10hr break which will happen at times. And the loads late.

i rather like swift just hate all these new rules that make no sense at all I've done quite while with them can complain I make great money every week except Hometime week.
