Yeah, I can just see the prison lunch room with all the convicts sitting there, and the roughest one says, " what are you in for"? "Leaving a dolly crank handle unsecured". And all the prisoners backed away.:biggrin_2559:

This is why in my mini tool box, or tool bag, I will carry a mid-sized vise grip and water pump pliers. sure it'll take time to crank down the landing gear, but it'll work. I can say that now however, all of us guys at my warehouse, have fairly new trailers, and we never drop them, unless they are going to be picked up for service. We can always get a new handle, installed too, when we call our boss, and he sends out the road service. Usually we all (3 of us) wait till another trailer needs work of some sort, as to not have the road service come out for one thing. But the boss would be kept well aware of any trailer repairs needed, and the urgency of such.

I would secure it. As far as any rule or regulation if they get real nit-picking or just grasping I would say they could use FMCSR §396.1 Scope-which makes you the driver responsible and then §396.3 Inspection, repair, and maintenance. That covers every part on the vehicle, where if it's broke it's got to be repaired. But that's grasping and being low-down. I've gone with then just hanging and no big deal.
