ISO alternative summer travel

The good news: your plan/idea sounds like a neat adventure, and also lots of fun--on paper.

The bad news: hitchhiking can prove to be EX-TREME-LY DANGEROUS.

Suggestion: modify your plan to make the same trip--but instead.....either rent, lease, or purchase a convertible.

Then do the same thing, otherwise.....

I wouldn't advise posting your email address on any form of social media.

That out of the way, most drivers are company drivers, meaning they won't be able to pick up passengers unknown to them. The idea is fun, but not safe for either party.

 

Cool idea.

Likely need multiple trucks to get where you want to go. Probably find one from Albuquerque to Ontario, CA, then another one from there up to San Fran area. In a pinch I'm sure there's also trains and other public transport you can use without any planning ahead.

My first thought was where are you going to sleep? Even if you are the nicest, chillest hitch hiker ever, those who give you a lift and those who will also let you sleep in their truck might not be the same crowd.

If it does work out for you I'd be interested to read your blog on your trip.
