I recently acquired a Galaxy 88 and it was working great about 6 months ago on factory Volvo antennas. I could pick up the local truck stop 10-15 miles away no problem. I switched trucks and never put the galaxy back in since I would be switching again at the first of the year.
So I got new truck, 2014 Volvo but the antenna was broken off. I went out last Friday and bought a K40 helical coil, roadpro mount and a 9 foot mini 8 coax. I got the swr set to 1.5 on 1, 40 and 19 and mounted it to the driver mirror I can't hear or get out more than 2 miles. Any idea?

I'm interested that you can't hear more than 2 miles. Are you sure there is enough radio traffic to gauge the distance? Where I hang around, some days I get no contacts and I used to think it was my radio, but I learned there was nobody listening.
Neverready and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
I heard two guys going the opposite way and they faded out real quick. Plus, I had a buddy with a 980 talk to me in psssing and I lost him in a mile. I'm hearing plenty of traffic that's low and gets Real loud then fades out fairly quick.

Real loud and fades out quick.
Sounds like a typical tune.
This is how it is supposed to work..
