Ok, time for a stupid question. What in the heck is the thing coming off the back of the water pump? It looks like an oil cooler, maybe??? I should probably know this, but I am drawing a total blank lol. In fairness to myself I never spent to the time investigate where the line goes that heads out of the back.
My assumption is that water pump has to be split from that oil cooler(?) with O rings seals, and that big Oring is what re-mates the two back together? -
Anybody? I looked at it for a couple minutes yesterday. Still not sure where that line goes, or what the back half connected to the pump does. Maybe the line that feeds the EGR? It feeds out, and there is no direct return line.

Water pump just bolts to the block and the water manifold that the lower rad pipe come up to. The inlet to the pump is from that little manifold, if you have coolant filter, the filter screws into this manifold. The outlet of the pump goes directly into the front of the block. The pump is sealed by orings. It just pull straight out from the front. It is not bolted to or connected to the oil cooler in anyway. The coolant flow path actually goes from the pump, to the block and then through the cooler, so you don't have to worry about that. W/P aren't too bad. Since all trucks are different there is more than one way to change one. Once your belts are off, it will depend on which area will have more clearance. Some trucks you have to unbolt the alternator and you can get the pump up and out through there. Other trucks have lots of room from underneath the rad and w/p can go down and out from there. I think there are only 7 bolts that hold the w/p to the engine. There are usually two bolts that you can totally unthread, but can't completely remove because the vibration dampener is in the way. What you do is is totally unthread those bolts and leave them loose in the holes and take the pump out with the bolts still in the holes. When you install the new pump you will have take those same two bolts in put them in the proper bolt holes of the new pump before you install it and install the pump together with bolts. The other 5 are ok and usually don't have clearance issues. Take note to how the belts are routed, because it is easy to get confused after, draw a picture.

How many thermostats does this motor have? I have been told two, are they somehow double stacked???

Well hell, my saga continues. Took it to my mechanic. His guess was as good as mine apparently. He cant figure it out either, his only suggestion was to start replacing parts until the problem goes away. So instead I had him install a manual fan switch, since my truck didn't have one. Seems to be helping quite a bit.
One thing I have noted, and this may be the answer. My truck has two water temp gauges. One is analog, and the other is digital and part of the computer monitor on the dash. The analog gauge is the one that reads too high, the other reads much lower. My guess is that analog gauge has gone bad some how. Although I am not sure how, as I would assume they both use the same sensor circuit, and read the same voltage. -
my truck is throwing all the coolent out of the reserve tank any idea what it cud be

Get one of those infrared heat guns and zap your motor in a few different spots and compare it to the temp gauge(s) on your truck. If there's a noticable difference every time, maybe time for a new gauge.
