ISX Cylinder liner sinking causing head gasket failure

    If you measure the counterbores, you may find that they are not worn much. If they are within. 001" from side to side, I can sell you stainless steel shims, that will replace the crap brass ones on the new liner, and you do not have to have the counterbores cut. (.014" liner protrusion)

    So basically you offer a .036 stainless steel shim? Seems like a more cost effective root to go if counterbores aren't fretted. Assuming you have six packs of them ready to be shipped?

    Why on earth did cummins spec such a soft metal in such an extreme cyclic loading location?

    Likely an experiment. Instead of using money to do a lot of R&D, let the customers be the R&D mules at their own expense.

    Cummins got away with brass in the N14, because, the liners were a press fit, in the block. The ISX liners, have .005" clearance, at the counterbore, and the counterbores are about 5" down in the liner, which is greatly affected by the piston thrust during combustion. Lugging the engine, makes it even worse.

    I think youre saying the N14 sleeve is an interference fit between the base of the liner and the block register while the isx is a drop in/pull out loose floating liner?

    If so are they using Orings to seal the water jack? How is the ISX about coolant leaks from the base and cracked liners? What about sunken liners and subsequent HG leaks?
