The critical step for the mechanical injectors on the CM870 and 871 is the injector adjustment. A high quality calibrated inch pound torque wrench is a must for accurate adjustment. Other than that its nothing special.
You can cheat the engine brake gap with a 7mm allen wrench and don't have to order the "required" hockey stick to set the brakes.
You might consider adding some dye to the fuel and running with the valve cover off and look for the happy trail. I surely wouldn't wing a set of injectors just yet. That's an expensive wing.

I got the dye, just need to administer it. YouTube says engine should be at operating temp and to add dye to fuel filter. Was trying to get a look at an injector today but it seems there aren't any in stock throughout the IL, IN area.

I understand that learning things on-the-fly isn't the best way but, save from on this forum, there's no one to ask. I suppose I should make a diesel mechanic friend or three.....

So I went to cummins.online to create an account and it keeps insisting I need to enter an email address on top of the email address it accepted in a different section. I can't seem to create an account.
