I'm not at all scared of the twin turbos. Each one is only doing a fraction of the work as the would be as a single. The whole advantage of twins is higher air volume with lower heat without the lag of a single. I would like to see someone do a custom set of twin turbos on an Acert for performance, but if you've seen the factory set live at 70psi it doesn't look like their needed.
ISX or ACERT, can't win?

I am not so much worried about the twin turbo's, when they work correctly. The downside is, if one flies apart, it is an almost certainty that the parts from there, are headed down the line to #2. At this point, you just doubled your repair bill for certain.
I think I am still leaning towards a CAT engine, simply because they are very tough, and in my experience, they last longer then most anything out there. There is a guy I run with on occasion, drives a 2005 W900L, 475 ACERT, 18 speed, 3:55's, 22.5 rubber, grossed out he averages about 5.5 to 6.5 MPG. When he is pulling an empty, he is in the high 7's and low 8's on a good day for weather. The truck has 1,400,000 KM on it now and still pulls like a bear and uses almost no oil. -
Most honest mech will tell you cats are not long life,,, my mech example will tell you he has more cat engine overhauls at 500,000 than any other.
Me when i drove, cat was my pref also but now that i have to pay as an o/o no way.
I will tell you in general cats lug better and shift WAY better.
And kenworth will inframe a cummins for 13,096 and a cat almost 19,000Last edited: Nov 1, 2009

The old mans previous truck, had a 550 HP 3406E CAT in it, he sold it with 1,700,000 KM on it, all original, never opened up. Used virtually no oil and was consistent in the 7.0 to 8.1 MPG range.
As I mentioned earlier, one of my friends has a 05 ACERT, 1,400,000 KM on it, never opened, still pulls like a bear.
Every single engine is different, they all have weak points, and strong points, and eventually all need to be rebuilt and fixed. I give up trying to think one is better then the other. In the end it's all the same. -
WOW 1.4 mil in 4 or 5 years I could make some money doing them Ks -
Yea it was double teamed for one year, and my friend put on all the rest. He averages about between 12,000 and 14,000 miles per month usually.

Don't touch the Cat, any honest owner/operator will tell you you can"t afford the crappy fuel mileage or the repairs. I should know I own one.
