$8,000....that seems way, way off. They are royally screwing somebody at that point, no question.

That ISX I mentioned with 900,000 KM is a 2005, a one owner truck, a 30 year veteran, it's his last truck and he is tired of driving, and wants to have a bit of a life before he get's to old, so he is looking to sell and just do a public joe type of job.

I try to shut down the engine as much as I possibly can. I let it warm up to a safe point, then I leave. I let it cool down for a few minutes when I come off the road, but otherwise, I shut it off. Soot will develop in any engine, especially when you shove exhaust back into the cylinder!

My honest opinion is, they need to make, an exhaust treatment system, and leave the engines alone. Go back to the year 2003, that should be the maximum amount of electronics aloud on a class 8 diesel engine. They need to start looking at things on a separate level. Let's leave the engine alone, and treat the exhaust further down the line, with some kind of jizmo or gadget. Every year the engines put less advertised HP to the ground because they are breathing in exhaust for intake air, and being limited on what they can do because some dumbarse in a suit somewhere figures he has it figured out.

My honest opinion is, the 3406E cat's, and the C15's up to 2003, were the perfect mix of electronics and a good diesel engine. From 04 and up, it's all been ruined 10 times over.

Here we go - that price difference is nothing but emission tax since the main reason for VG Turbos was probably improving emissions in no-load conditions (idleing, slow driving). The only problem is, how to make customers pay for that BS. How to make them pay higher rates for moving freight in "eco" manner.

Its never gonna happen so: truck owners gotta eat the bill when truck makers make a buck.

Thats all what Government interventions are really about, screwing the poor further and feeding the beast they serve
