There's a section for politics, which is not moderated. Take the political discussions to that section please.
Recently while at a customer I saw one of those motivational posters on the wall that said, 'An organization is not built by one person, but rather a team effort'. With the vast industry knowledge and expertise gathered right here in this forum, 2 or 3 successful owners could combine resources to create an organization similar to what Lanstar's friend accomplished. Start by purchasing one or two trucks and grow from there. Of course there'll be pitfalls but they can be overcome...
They only thing keeping me from doing something like this is that I do not want any employees. Not with Obamacare and other nonsense coming down the ramp to pile on to what already can be a difficult proposition. I would make a terrible employer.
The reality is that the one truck, one driver model is very risky. Countless circumstances could occur to derail your operation, such as a tragic accident or an unfortunate medical diagnosis. This hurts even more considering you're now accustomed to your income level. Running 2, 3 or more trucks potentially offers more stability.
i cant imagine having my own authority and someone else running under my authority. i wouldnt be able to sleep at night
Can you imagine having a ''new'' brainwashed DRONE DRIVER in your truck.?..The driver would be calling you at 3:00 A.M..Hey boss can you send me a service truck on the NJ Turnpike,my wiper fluid is out......745.00 later..
Your operation can still run under another company's authority, like Landstar, Sammons, Mercer. But your concern is valid. Company drivers have a very different mentality from owners. That's why you carefully select your driver and provide him/her with monetary incentives to perform well. And by partnering with other successful owners, the risk of the venture is minimized.
