It just can't get better then that!!!

I really think is a newbie's dream job and yes EZ Money I should consider buying a lottery ticket lol.
I just left the facility and sent for a new DOT physical. This is why I think it can't get better, at least for me.
Starting right away very close to the $20/hr, 40 hr guaranteed with time and a half for the "for sure" overtime, Monday-Thursday starting @ 1:00am, benefits and health insurance after 3 months. I really wanted to go OTR but I just couldn't let this one pass.

I don't know if I deserve it but all I have to say is: "Hard Work pays off".

 

I ran OTR for 20+ years,then got a local job with a grocery store chain.LOVED IT!
4 days on,3 days off and great pay and benefits.

They ended up doing a bunch of driver cut backs and i was lower on the seniority list so lost my job.

I now do regional on a dedicated account for a private carrier.
I like it pretty well,off on weekends and home a night or two during the week.

The best job i had was the local job...i really miss it.

Hang with that new job.Do your very best and make and career out of it.
OTR is not for everyone and local is great for a young man.You still can have a home life and make decent money.

It is great to hear a good story like this instead of the sob stories of OTR for a mega carrier.

 

So...what kind of truck will you be driving and trailer size will you be pulling? They are going to turn you loose in their rig right after you complete cdl school?

 

Congratulations, Pariente! Now, just don't screw it up!

Take it slow and easy, listen to everything you are told, then make up your own mind. A lot of local companies, the drivers like to screw with the new guy a bit, so keep a thick skin, and a bit of perspective.

I was getting pretty jealous until you mentioned the 1:00 AM start time. No thanks. There is a Polish proverb that goes something like this: "night work is for your dick and the cat."

 

I used to run midnight leave out......not bad at all and no traffic most of the shift.

 

It's actually not a bad shift at all. If you work it steady, your body gets used to it. Beats the heck out of rotating around all the time. It can be a bit difficult for family life, until you and yours get used to it though.

 

First, change your attitude. Do not hope you will get your CDL. Know it! Those that hoped were the ones that were coming back for a retest.

What type of route is this? Food delivery, line haul, drop and hooks?

Hopefully this position was not open because no one else was willing to do it, without riot gear!

Yes EZ Money I'm definitively staying for as long as I can. The facility is full of happy faces and made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in, they have an awesome staff.
Scooter Jones I thought the exact same think but a lot of that have to do on what my previous jobs and instructors have to say about me. I've had only 2 jobs in the past 7 years starting as a helper learning the trade and within the first few months ended up as a crew leader/supervisor. Hard work always pays off.
DriverToBroker I'm sure I can handle both and for the pay I just couldn't refuse.
Big Don Thank you and I'll do my best, specially when I'm taking the place of a guy that is retiring after 20 years with the company. Big shoes to fill but he's training me for the next 2 weeks.
