Prime and Southern Refrigerated Transport provide meals and lodging plus a bus ticket to get there. After you get the CDL then bail out and go home. You will owe money for the school and will have to work out some payment plan on that.

If the state pays for Drumright plus lodging, then leave the car at home and stock up on instant foods. Most lodging has hot water and microwave.

I had two people tell me to change everything I have been doing and leave my family.
If thats what I wanted to do, then I would have done it.
I have spoken with prime and I almost signed on with them but I decided that time with my family was more important to me than making more money and hardly getting to be home.

Then you're not going to truck. Most local gigs are for experienced drivers who have been OTR.

Thank you chinatown, yes the drumright school is paid for and they will house me while I am atrending school but my concern is getting to the school and food. The instant meal thing is a good idea but it can only account for so much and affordability may be an issue. Even if I took a bus to the school it would still be difficult because the housing is around 5 miles away and there is no way I could walk 10 miles every day.
I am just worried about it and wanted to try and get help.

also to everyone else i wasnt rejecting anything, I have tried to explain that I would not like to go OTR and that I have spoken with prime and almost went with them. I have nothing against them or any company for that matter. I just dont see the need in driving OTR in my situation.
Again, I apologise for any misunderstandings or if I was out of line.
This is a great community of drivers with heaps of information and I appriciate every bit of it.

Thank you for the uplifting words.
I dont mean to sound harsh but it seems that diplomacy is greatly overlooked here.
    Ill put it this way.
You are wrong, plain and simple. I am going to "truck" and I am going to make it whether anyone here or anywhere else tells me that im not. I am dedicated to this and I will reach my goal. I appriciate all the advice and I see now that I was right in thinking that I shouldnt have even asked.
I wasnt asking for handouts and I tried to make it clear that I am set in the way that I am going about this but it seems that im not the only stubborn person here and the help that I was asking for is either unavailable or just plain unheard of here.
Either way I asked how to remove this thread and got no response and my question has been answered so there is no reason to continue here.

Thank you all and be safe out there.

And I am telling you how it is. You're not out here. We are. And you didn't like what we had to say. You're not starting off real well. You can't make it to school and don't know how you're going to eat if you get there and you're going to think you're going local right off the bat. There's a real world out there, whenever you're ready to step in to it.

I getwhat you are saying and those are assumptions based off of a post asking for help.
I asked for help and I said I am worried about it.
I can and will make it happen with or without help.
Im sorry if something I said upset you specifically or something but im not a teenager getting out of school and deciding to drive a truck. I am young but im not stupid, I have done my research and, there are local jobs near me that I have spoken to people about.
I have a car and I know how to work on it.
I have means to get food in event of an emergency and it is needed.
I asked for help for a reason and I tried to make that reason understood.
Im trying to avoid being rude or getting frustrated but I have tried putting this to rest and it just keeps going.
I really dont want to leave such an amazing forum full of valuable information from experienced drivers.
I listen and I retain but I also do my oen research and I make sure I am prepared no matter what.
Thats all this was about, there was no need for a hazing.
I just wanted to see if anyone could help me.
Hands on help not just advice, I know what I am facing and I know my goal.
I have made my choice, this thread had nothing to do with asking what company I should work for or where I should go to school.
I could keep trying to get my point across but at this point I dont really see it happening.
I would love to continue to be a part of this forum and learn what I can from everybody but if thats not in the cards then I will find the information other ways.
Again and for the last time, I apologise for any misunderstandings or if I have stepoed out of line at any point.
    That was not my intention.

Good luck to you... I wont bash you... try ABF freight or Conway freight... I believe they both hire student drivers... You make have to start working on the dock but they will pay for you to get your CDL... Your Intentions IMO seem to be good just miss-read from others...

Hi mbuck, sounds like you might have waited a tad too long. It's going to be a while before things turn around. Can you put some bills on a credit card or a short term loan? I'm just a little concerned you are asking a lot out of this as it sounds like you are at the bottom already. I've been in your situation and you have the right drive, so things will turn around, but you are going to need a chunk of money from somewhere to get you through. Good luck, pal
