Went from Winchester VA to Erie and back over wknd. Saw an unusual amount of ety flats. GE Locomotive announced it was laying off 630 workers in Erie. That will stop a good run.

I think this thread has just about convinced me to forget about buying a flat & moving to Idaho. Better to buy a compliant truck or retrofit mine with a dpf & keep my little 1.60 a mile, 2700 miles every week, all year long, home every weekend, curtain van gig. Buy my own trailer & bump the revenue to 1.80.

But my truck would sure look good with a nice Reitnouer spread axle flat behind it. It don't matter if I go broke as long as I look cool doing it.

I would play it safe and just keep on keeping on. You have a good balance of profitability and utilization. It will be tough to duplicate that in the open deck market on the left coast. I would not buy a trailer right now. Too much uncertainty.

Had a real tough time loading 2 flats out of Salt Lake City today. Was pulling teeth just to get $2 per mile to head west, north, or south. Thank the stars they were no tarp. Any thoughts on why CA is so dead?

SLC has always been tough in my experience. Our regular shippers in CA are cruising right along. A lot of people are expecting rates to start going up as the CARB BS takes effect. I kind of doubt it, but I just got a quote for a dpf retrofit. Better the devil I know........

i'm expecting CA to start getting really hard up for citation revenue come jan 1.

they need the money to build that new scale you all were talking about 2 months back.
