Hello Everybody! I am new to this forum stuff, but not to trucking. I started trucking back in 82 driving for Global Van Lines (Bedbugger) as you like to call us, LOL. I loved being on the road I felt somewhat free compared to a 9-5 job local. Did that OTR for 10+ years even brought my girlfriend with me, Then Marraige then kids made my decision for me to come off the road, I thought I was doing the right thing by staying home doing local jobs but have been miserable since.
My current job is at a local charter bus company. I am dispatch during the week and I do Charters on the weekends, at least I get some driving in. This company recently sold some buses to a company in Seattle and I was asked to lead the 8 buses to Seattle since I was more familiar with OTR than most of our drivers. I had forgotten how nice it was to be on the road, well now more than ever I want to get back on the road again and become an OTR driver for at least 20 more years, I figure I can retire after that.
I have been reading post after post on alot of companies doing research. So far even after reading the bad post from companies it seems to me the best pick for me would be JB Hunt, I have read more good than bad posts for that company than any other except Arnold but I am not interested in flatbeds that much, I'll drive em if needed but not all the time if I dont have to. I have weighted the options of staying local but when I was OTR I felt more alive than anywhere else, nothing local will satisfy me as much as OTR.
Some of the things you guys are talking about on here I have no clue what they are, like for example the DAC report? That did not exist when I was OTR 20 years ago or at least I never heard of it back then. I have alot of miles under my belt with zero accidents but no way to prove it since my original company I worked for went out of business.
Thanks for hearing me out. I will try to post again once I talk with JB Hunt
Have a Great Day! and Stay Safe
It's Back to the Road for Me
