We are on a load from Iowa to Cali, prolly gonna drop at Lathrop. We've been working our way thru a big snow and ice system across Wyoming and now Utah. This is a bit crazy for a southern Louisiana man, lol.
Aw Man! My favorite Corridor. I-80 from Illinois to California. BUT in the summer and spring. Hope you get to do the Donner on the way back from I-5 to I-80 (woo-hoo), but hope it's not snowing. It's always best to do it a couple of times on a dry run first. Hope you also get to do a run on the Nevada Desert Highway (I think it's hwy 29) from Idaho at the top of Nevada all the way to Vegas. Man lots of fun. Everything from small towns and tight turn, to flat desert for what seems like forever, to mountain roads (don't look down). Tell your trainer not to take the short cuts, but stay on the main route. Great experience.
Yup, I did get to drive Donner Pass..... I drove yesterday from Wells, NV to Lathrop, CA, which included all that mountain driving AND rush hour traffic in Cali. Seein' how little wheel time I actually got in school and I started driving 4 days ago, I see the past 4 days pretty much as a "baptism by fire"!
-We deadheaded from Lathrop to Yuma, got here early for a live load which we're haulin' to Atlanta, but we didn't bump the dock till almost 4 hrs after our pick up time., Looks like that will put me drivin' all night prolly. I got some good backing practice in their lot,
Can anyone tell me about their company policy on log book's? Are they really tight and strict about them or are they a tight ### about them? Loose left, etc. etc. Thanks in advance for the info.
To be honest, they are real brats about your log book. That being said, I understand, because they are trying to keep things legit and on the level. Loose Leaf is fine. In fact, it's the way to go. They issue a company spec log book with two days on each page. I always took the staples out of the book and kept them loose-leaf in a compartment type clip board. I kept the one in current use on the clipboard, and the completed forms papercliped together in the compartment with the blanks. If the DOT wanted to see my log, I just handed them the clipboard. It kept my logs neat, and if I messed up or got sloppy, I could re-write it and throw the sloppy one away. You will be required to scan (fax) your logs to the Log Audit Dept about every week to two weeks. But that means you keep the originals for your records. They have a computer program that checks over the logs. Make sure you always log your fuel stops and fill in all required blanks. Watch your hours on the chart and make sure everything is within the legal hours of service or the computer will kick it back. They will give you a warning a couple of times, but after that you get "Nasty Grams" from Log Audit and they can put you on probation and put points against you which can build up and bring Disciplinary Action. They usually don't compare everything to the qualcomm, so "exact times" are not graded, but always make sure your fuel stops are within the window of the hour you stopped and pumped your fuel.
That's good to know. So they aren't that bad on them really. FFE was tight as hell about their log's. That "window" to play with on fuel stop's... They won't let you do that. They want everything to the T. Sound's like i just might make the jump over there.
