    That can add up.

I had to run in to town this afternoon to get smokes. The gas station here also sells diesel for big trucks. I know most of the folks that work there. I asked the gal working the counter if there were any trucks shut down yesterday there. She said no, but their fuel delivery was THREE HOURS LATE!!!! because the driver slowed down to 50 all day long. I'm honestly not surprised that there wasn't anyone parked there as it's only a small place and not a lot of heavy truck traffic stopping. We've got a Pilot up the road about 15 miles on I-74, and Terre Haute with a decent sized truck stop or two about 35 miles south. But the folks working there have been hearing lots of talk about the shutdown and/or slow down to 50.

At any rate, she said that they actually had to bring in two trucks this morning instead of one because they almost ran out of fuel since yesterday's delivery was late.

Small steps. If every truck in the nation were to simply slow down to 50 mph for four or five days, can you imagine how much impact that would have? One fuel truck was three hours late at a little blink in the road gas station and they almost ran dry on every type of fuel. Just for three hours late. And it isn't illegal to run 50 on the interstate. Minimum speed posted is 45. So they aren't doing anything illegal. And most skinny roads the posted speed is 55 or 60. And the police can't tell you any different. You would be going within the posted minimum and maximum speeds.

I really like the sound of a major organize to get everyone to do it. Maybe between all of us here we could get something started. But it would take some serious organizing, and leading. It would take a lot of effort from all of us to get the word out across America, and get it set on a firm date.

And for all those naysayers who say "I'll get fired if I'm late", well, you can't very well go any faster "when all those other trucks are doing 50 and slowing traffic down so much". There's your perfect excuse. Because if every truck did slow down it would slow all traffic down. Oh, and just think of the savings in fuel consumption for everyone, car and big truck alike. :biggrin_255:

Oh I forgot to add that the driver of the fuel truck was a Marathon company driver. And he wasn't the only tanker yanker that did it either.

Is the truck stop you're talking about the one with a Burger King in it off of 41...on the west side of the highway?

Off State Road 63. 41 and 63 split up north of West Lebanon and come back together down in Terre Haute. But yes it's on the left side as you're heading south. Used to be a Shell, got bought out by Marathon. BK is still there.

If you ever pass by Cayuga heading somewhere in your truck, give me a holler and I might be able to come up and meet you at BK for lunch, if you don't mind a two year old joining as well.

im glad to see more folks (especially company drivers) have come up with the same idea i thougth of too. dont shut down, just slow down to the min speed if you are a co driver. LOL just blame it on traffic or whatever LOL.
i was lucky enough to have from tue. to sat off anyway so i am "on strike" without being on strike. lol
