We all been there . we all been pushing , only 100 miles to go, we sleep when we hit the dock... Then when u go to sleep and wake up , cant remeber where the f ur at or how the heck ya got there ... Yes get some sleep, its the most important thing to keep the rubber on the road
tommymonza and Intothesunset Thank this. -
A deadly phenomenon, to say the least. I've had it a few times.
A nagging condition, just as dangerous that I get is when it's time to go to the sleeper, I'm so used to keeping awake that I dose off and suddenly come awake. When that happens, I tell all concerned that I have to stand down. Either go home for a few days or if I'm still on the road I have to take some time off.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
The very reason I will quit before I deal with an eld. I have always pulled over and napped when I WANTED to, now that may be 1 hour after I take off in the morning. or 15 hours, or any time in between.
In fact I stopped and took a 2 hour nap on the way home today.tommymonza, D.Tibbitt, Intothesunset and 2 others Thank this. -
Back years ago in my outlaw days when I ran hard and sometimes for 2 to 3 months at a time without a day off. I would just disappear for a 24 to 48 hour period at some point.D.Tibbitt and Intothesunset Thank this. -
I am not tired and do not sleep because they mandate me too.
I was never ever tired with a paper log. I got more work done and was much a safer operator than i am now (better rested).
I never used a push or nudge to cover more miles and make more money. I simply drove when i was awake and alert or napped if needed and started late if needed.
It was a much higher quality of life and safer.
Under mandates, i have sat wide awake when i could be knocking down miles and also (carefully worded coding) driven when frankly i would rather have knocked off early.
Personally i wish they gave me 16 hours and 750 miles per 24 hours to do whatever the hell i wanted and when i wanted as far as work is concerned. Yes, and i start the period when i say. Not the clock or the calendar. Geez its almost like i want to be the adult in charge off my life.
Frankly if the govt wants to mandate anything they can mandate driver wages up where they belong. Trust me, if you everybody was banking 1970's money, $150-200k annually, you wouldnt be doing anything stupid to jeopardize your job and you would be taking time off to go spend the loot.there wouldnt be a shortage of qualified, responsible drivers to fill seats either... but its not about that... bad driver, thinking outloud again.
tommymonza and Intothesunset Thank this. -
