Yep, gotta have a minimum set. $250 is not worth it. Not under any circumstances, other than say, possibly, it's one pallet, picks up right at the dock where I'm already loading and going to the same place where the load I'm already loading is going......
Was that the negotiated best rate you could get, or was that the rate that the broker offered when you asked him what he was paying??
Cause usually it's something like this, "I'm, (the broker), paying $250.
Me, "I understand you'd like to move that 1 pallet for $250, and maybe you get lucky and find someone, but I'm at $500, do you want to come up toward me?"
And we haggle for a couple min.
He goes to $275
I'm now at $475
He's at $300
I'm at $450
He's at $325, and saying he can't do any better, that's it.....
Me, "$425 is the cheapest I can do that for, if you can agree to $425, right now, we have a deal. But it needs to be RIGHT NOW, once this call ends I'm no longer interested. (said nicely) And the only reason I'm even calling and considering it is because I've got 1 final spot and the pu and del is on my way....
At the end of the discussion I'm getting over $400, or I'm not bothering with it. (and I let the broker know that, that's my final offer, say yes, now, and you move your partial, end this call and I'm no longer interested as I've got other things to do, and not said in a mean way, just a matter of fact kind of way.)
Seven times out of ten the answer is "ok, you drive a hard bargain, but I can give you $425"
mcgoo, I'm feeling you. $250 is way to low to move a partial, even if it's only one pallet. The only outfit I see picking that 1 plt up is Old Dominion, or the equivalent...... and I've lost pallets to ltl outfits before, but it's no big deal.... cause, you figure you're going to lose about four hours screwing around with that 1 pallet partial, an hour easy at the pu, you have to exit the interstate, find the place, check in, back into their dock, forklift dude does his thing, sign the paperwork, drive 3 hours, and another hour reversing the process doing the delivery..... man, I think I'm back at $500..... I'm calling that broker back, where's my cellphone...lol....AchioteCoyote and CellNet Thank this. -
Seriously? Wow how about a minimum.

Yeah that is terrible. I know this is gonna sound like truck stop counter one upmanship but there is a LS broker that routinely posts up ridiculous 500-1,000+ mile 35-40k loads and the pay is anywhere from $0 to $$30... yes thirty bucks. I have even seen $1 on them. Ok people can do a typo but this is daily and different parts of the country. Maybe they are just really great loads paying $4 a mile and they post them this way to cut out calls. It has me curious but I'm betting they are just crappy $1 mile loads. Next time I see one I'll email it to you but you may have noticed them yourself already.jess-juju Thanks this.
