Hey, sell your truck and become a broker. I hear that is were the money is at.

BTW, ever heare of "Hero to Zero"? Half way into the first month and all you have done is spend money on that beast. ;)

Good post Coal. I have often said here and elsewhere that it takes $100,000 to start out as a carrier. I have also said one should plan on spending $20,000 on equipment maintenance/upgrades in year one and $10,000 every year after. I have been flamed and called everything but a church goer for such statements.

So I ask you....how far off was I after 3 years?

I will believe it when I see it.

And for the record, I'm jealous.

Pretty close. Although my startup was $55k cash. I put my life into this. It was 10 years of sweat and sacrifice before it started. Kind of like blackjack. Yeah you can win but not everyone does. I put it all on the line.

I would say the reason you won is because you had the capital to back you up. People want to believe they can start trucking with $15,000 and I think you might as well play black jack.

Well, I can tell you they don't send me all these comp nights because they like to give me money. But the drinks are free.

No debt for me in this game, none, ever. Paid cash for my truck, went on what we figured was our last vacation for a while had a great time, and hit the road with a $15k cash fund in the bank. Leasing to a carrier it was sufficient. Independent authority it's no where near enough. One key thing used trucks were cheap late 08 early 09 you could get a 400k miles truck for $30,000

Ahh I see. Yes might not need 100,000 if you're getting settlement checks instead of waiting on broker payment.
