Hi I was seeing if you could help me a little more. I’m looking at putting a driver on the road with some final mile logistics companies. Is this possible or do the people that contract with these companies have to be owner operators?

Also looking at the numbers for these final mile companies they say pay is between $150-250k but after paying a driver and all expenses my numbers come up to around 700-3000 a month depending on if I’m renting the truck or leasing it. Are these numbers accurate?

That $150k/$250k is to the truck, anything left over after expenses is your profit.

Sounds like this person has dreams of running JB Hunt and Schneider out of business.

So I’m still confused on this are they working with manufacturers to haul their freight in containers on the rail or are they pulling freight from the rail and not getting compensated for using their containers on the trains?

They get paid for the whole trip. Load the container at one end of the country with 1 truck, haul it to the intermodal rail terminal and pay the railroad to haul it cross country because its cheaper than paying for an OTR truck. Then a different truck takes the container to the receiver to unload.
Those container trains are the reason you dont find many good paying long distance runs anymore, anything 1000 miles plus they are looking at if its cheaper to pay the railroad or the OTR driver, usually railroad wins.
Unless its changed in recent years, those 53 foot containers dont go on the ships, they are domestic only, so all the cargo is domestic origin or cross docked at the coast.

Spot on. One of the main customers my company has there's a 10-1 ratio of containers to road trailers.
