really, that's not to bad, to start. you got to figure all the drop and hooks, 5 would be 90, 10 would be 180. it might be just local to that area... Maybe the miles could be more, but figure it up and you can make 200 or more per day.

Trying to find some Intermodal information on JB. I will am considering running regional out of Chicago but I live in Dayton, OH. Trying to figure out how many miles to expect, what the week looks like, home time. I know I can pick two days as long as they are not both the weekend days. Do i actually get all of them two days off or do I leave my 2nd off day in the evening? I've asked a recruiter these questions but would rather have the answers from a driver. Is there any possibility getting home for my 10 through the week? I live 1 mile off the south end of 675 (3 exits from 75) if that helps at all. Thanks.

I have friends that run intermodal and they get two full days off. One friend works 3pm til when he is done M thru f but he is a local now, but when it was regional he got 2 dys off.

will get 2 full days off and never miss a day off either and miles home are paid miles. There were times I got hd from chi 374 paid miles just to get home for time off. If you max your hours and run hard and only take 10 hour breaks 2800-3100 mi is no problem. They have a Payless dc just across the line that you will see a lot. I mostly did drop and hook about 90%. It's a very good gig . I did it over a year before going local with them on a Tyson feed account . Any questions you can pm mebrandon.vose Thanks this. -
Hi everyone. Just weighing my options. Looking at hiring on at JB Hunt local, Harrisburg, PA. Recruiter told me they have a run that's early mornings m-f, weekends off, home everyday 52-54K a year (I'll believe that when I'm doing it haha). I've never run intermodel before. Been driving almost 5 years have done food delivery, bulk tanker and van delivery. Also looking at working for Penske Logistics or a small company called Madison Intermodel. Penske is a dedicated run out of carlise, Pa to albany, Ny, M-F you stay out 1 or 2 days in the week buddy said he's making good money for the miles (2600miles/1400 gross + drop hooks etc.) Madison is a company that does a 1099 even though you use their equipment and it's slip seat, paper logs. Never dealt with a company that does 1099's. What would you guys go for, I'm leaning towards penske but it's farther from my house. JB is my second option. I used to deliver cabinets in the North East got paid $19.02/hr time and half over 40 hrs, hands on delivery but company sold over to Cardinal and they were an absolute joke. Mileage pay and delay pay (after 2 hrs) for doing brooklyn, bronx etc with sometimes 4-5 hrs delay times. Totally mismanaged so I left.

I work for JB Hunt intermodal locally out of St Louis.I made 50,000 last year. if you do intermodal you definitely want to do it with JB Hunt. We get priority at rails to where you don't have to wait on containers to be put on chassis and vice a versa. I also work Monday through Friday and get the whole weekend off. I start at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

Thanks for the info!! I applied at Penske Logistics. JB Hunt will be my 2nd choice.

I run regional intermodal out of Harrisburg and I did local for two years.
Local intermodal is a decent job... but I would seriously question whether you would come on as a new hire and get M-F with an early morning start. That would be the most sought after shift and that's what 90% of drivers want. Unfortunately loads come in off the train 24/7 and JB needs drivers to start every hour around the clock.
I wanted M-F 6 am start. Well I was lucky to get M-F but I had the choice of starting at 1100. 1200, 1400 or 1500. I took the 1100 hoping at some point to get an earlier start time. I put in 2 years at the 1100 shift and never got the chance for what I wanted so I went to regional and was allowed to start at whatever time I chose. The catch with regional is you got to run your ### off 14 hrs a day to make decent money. Local does pay better per hour. As a new hire you would start around 34 cents a mile I believe it's $21 for every drop and hook and $41 for every Live load/live unload. $52-54k is probably the fleet average, but at the starting rate of 34 cents 47-49k is probably more accurate unless you work some 6th days. (speaking of 6th days they frequently offer $50-100 extra on top of your day's earning when they are behind so on those days you can make $300 plus) -
Yeah, I had my doubts haha. Thanks for clearing all that up!
