I found this interesting link the other day. I like in particular the home made Base antennas for CB and Ham frequencies.

I plan to build the 11 meter J-Pole soon so I'll have a decent home CB antenna.
How to Build a CB Antenna -- The 11 Meter J-Pole Antenna
A cheaper version of the J-pole can be made by omitting the telescoping aluminum tubing and substituting it for 14 gauge wire.
7'7" of 300 ohm Twin lead like old TV antenna's used.
17'2" of 14 gauge stranded copper wire. Cut longer to wrap around an insulator.
1- OS 239 Female flange mount or solder coax directly to antenna approximately 6 inches from bottom of antenna. Where that gets soldered up or down adjusts the SWR.
50' of RG8X Coax or as much as needed.
Set SWR 1st then sling a weighted rope over a 35 ft high limb and drag the antenna up.
Hook it up and off you go.

Strait to the point
This J-Pole uses a 450 ohm Ladder Lead that is larger than the old tv cable. 300 ohm Twin Lead.
Its measurements are a little different than the 300 ohm Twin Lead antenna but the video is short and strait to a quick simple home base antenna that can get out many miles.
