That is one reason I say always get enough money at all times on hand to get home anywhere in the USA.

You failed in getting new tires put on. Now it's debatable if that would have prevented a jackknife in the first place. We are way past that.

In my time worn tires became defective in a awful hurry prior to making a initial complaint to shop. Don't ask me anymore about that.

 

When bosses make threats or ultimatum as you say, I usually go home. They can find someone else to push around. Jobs are nice but not that important to waste under a stupid boss.

 

I was in that same ice storm as the op. Brand new tires wouldn't of helped one bit.
I had brand new rubber on mine, Lost traction 2x. Pulled on the shoulder to wait it out, But that was a bad idea, cars were spinning out everywhere and in danger of them hitting me.
So back on the ice I went another 8 miles to the next exit where I sat 2hrs. waiting for the sun or salt trucks
That morning Il. dot reported over 200 accidents and 4 people died.
When I continued on so I57 around Kankakee there were 7-8 big trucks in the ditch and 20-30 cars
