So, I’ve recently seen both UPS and FedEx hauling containers around Jacksonville, FL. As in containers from the port as in intermodal haha. I don’t recall ever seeing these two haul them anywhere else in the Country. Maybe I never noticed, but have recently been seeing it almost daily around Jax. Also, these aren’t contractors, these are actual brown trucks and branded FedEx. Anyone know what that’s all about? Thanks!

UPS and FedEx have been pulling their own containers for years. FedEx has even been investing in their own chassis pool.

They put less trailers on the rail now and more double stack containers.

The UP yard in SLC when I was there stopped loading vans.

Supposedly back years ago when Chicago started running teams was because the railroad has significantly raised rates for TOFC and terrible service. Before I left in 2012 I took many trailers to the rail but seldom a container unless it was a UPS 28’ Rail Box. They gradually did away with those. Now they seem to have a bunch of the long containers in the fleet.
