Does anyone know how to get on hauling out of the rail yards and to the train station? Talked to a guy who knew of a guy doing that. 2 loads a day at $400 a piece.

I cant answer your question. But rail and pier work is about the cheapest fright there is. The chassis they use are junk and were manufactured when Carter was president. If they are not that old they sure look like it. They haul overweight most of the time and are a magnet for DOT. Just something to think about

WTF? Obviously you don't haul containers out of rail yards.

If you want to know about owner operator gigs that work hauling containers You can check out http://www.hubgroup.com/intermodal-drayage/ They are the largest one dealing strictly with owner operators I believe...at least in Harrisburg PA.paryki Thanks this.

I have trucked in / out / around Jacksonville all my life. I have pulled containers, and shuttled railroad trailers. They do not pay anywhere close to 400 a load. Most local RR moves are less than 100 bucks.

Haha, are there a lot of local jobs?

I previously worked with drivers, company and 0/0s, and the company drivers either lived with their parents or in the ghetto. They couldn't afford anything better unless the wife had a good job. The dispatchers made more than the drivers and that's something you just don't see in trucking.
