Yes, jail breaking in iOS is the same thing as rooting in Android.
Both opens one up to a lot more risk by doing so. Such as the story identified above about gaining access to ones passwords, etc.
Yes, one can do it but I hope the reward is worth the risk.

And when it comes to OS security and "knowing what they are doing", I highly doubt the vast majority of those either rooting or jailbreaking their devices have that knowledge to protect themselves from what they are playing with.

Besides buying a used iPhone4S for cheap to use as a good quality portable music source, there is little incentive to go Apple anything except for the 'prestige' they have managed to bestow upon the brand in the eyes of the masses.
Hardware to hardware, generation to generation; Android is ahead even in stock form.
Products are at the very top end of the expense scale, yet are made in China for maximum profitability and still advertis
My GF has the iPhone 6+ & I find myself wondering the appeal of the device & OS even compared to my current 2+yr old HTC one m7, which is behind the perfection of the galaxy note 2 in likeability.Last edited: Sep 6, 2015

I don't get the constant crashes, hangs and out right bugs that I have experienced with Android on a daily biases for my work phone. My Iphone I use for personal use and don't have to reboot it or adjust it. The Android phone crash's on a constant bases and needs to be hard rebooted once a day if not more as it simply hangs and I cant answer calls.
As for what is in bold above Apple has 1 phone line, the normal and the plus, so hardware wise there is only 2 specs. Android can be on any phone from the crappiest of the crap to the best of the best, It simply depends. There is a new phone coming out every few months on the Android side as many phone makers design one and only once a year for Apple.
In the end both Apple and the Android market have good phones. They all have there glitches and frankly it depends on what you need it for as for what you get it for. As long as your happy its all that matters. =)MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
By "hardware to hardware" I mean the capacity, processing power, capibility of equivilently released products.
Iphone hardware (besides camera & sometimes screen quality) is priced at top heap since there is no compitition in its own family, yet is only middle of the road compared to Samsung, HTC, LG, Moto, ect top android brand price specs.
Even more egregious with Apple PC & laptop products, proprietary is not a good thing for anyone except the manufacturer.
Never had rebooting issues, lockups, ect on my android phones so I cannot comment on stability I guess.
As far as bloatware, it's easy enough to deal with if you know what settings to use.
There are many android phones priced at every price point imaginable, just have to make sure the phone you want is exactly what you are getting much like auto shopping.
Glad you are content with your Apple products; working frustration free is a big selling point -

By the way, I will be upgrading from my 4S to the new 6S or maybe the 6S Plus... Know anyone looking for a good quality music source?
Oh, and it's still an awesome phone too... Even runs the newest iOS four years after I bought it.
Stay Safe,
