People are soo sensitive these days....crying an complaining about everthing..."jake brakes really"... it's equiped on the truck for a reason people... In residential area's late at night I understand, but at the same time in truck stops you got some noisy trucks, apu's, and reefers running all night any way. If I going down hill with a heavy load, I will use my jake brakes any where. I'll rather deal with angry people than getting into an acident or losing my service brakes

The problem is not the engine brakes. The problem is the punk truckers running engine brakes with straight pipes or running louder brakes on Main Street in a town that is as flat as a pancake from edge to edge.

I don't think anyone is complaining about trucks going down hill with a heavy load using an engine brake. Like stated above, it's the morons with 8" straights showing everyone in the truckstop, or small towns how manly they are.

There is a place in Iowa with a steep downgrade and it's a winding road with a no Jakes sign. Lol ok, mine are gonna bark down this whole hill regardless of what the sign says. It's in the bluff country and I think it's something like 8%

Hwy 52 if anyone knows the road, fun road to run empty from just south of Rochester to Dubuque. SUCKS when you're loaded though.

But no I don't use mine constantly.

I don't care if it's 15%. If it's short, and if it's residential nearby, you don't need jakes. If you do, you're probably doing it wrong. Truckers ran 80k+ for many decades without engine brakes, and with much worse braking systems than we have today.

While i get what you are saying and even agree to a point but let's not forget that truck accidents were much more common then.
