Jan 5 Class

yep got a call Friday telling me the hotels have changed to the Budget Host. No biggie though just hope they have internet so I can keep everyone update on here.....

 

Hello everyone sorry for the long update at the hotel we dont have internet but I will fill you guys in. Right now im liking this pretty good. School is good Greg the instructor is a top notch all around good guy and pretty funny guy. As far as training goes I dont have any complaints.

Monday we mainly went over introductions and getting a feel of how the class will go, rules etc. 90% was getting paper work filled out. Went over drugs and alchol stuff and everyone knows ( I hope ) not to do drugs or drink alcohol when you have to opperate a CMV. We started on filling out log books and we actually have to log our class hours so we get plenty of time to practice logs. Also they had all the instructors from other schools down for some kind of meeting. We went over map reading which I suck at lol.

Tuesday went over more log book stuff. Loging on how the class runs like for lunch and all that good stuff. Mike Millis stoped by for several days for the meetings between the instructors. Went over the engine system, stearing system, brakes, air systems. Went over cab controls and what does what. Went over mirrors and which mirror showed what.

Wednesday went over droping and hooking the trailer and all the proper procedures on doing so. At lunch time I came out of the tourminal and came out of Carson and a JB Hunt driver went off an embankment at the KOA camp if anyone is familiar. I will post pictures of that later. Took 3 tow trucks to pull him back up. Went over pre-trip videos and went over backing and the different types of backing.

Thursday went over pre-trip almost all day and actually got to get outside and watch a driver trainer named Tom deminstrate that for us. Went over shifting and down shifting on video tapes. Mike Millis left this day. Pretty good guy and real nice if anyone hasnt met him.

Friday ( today ) WE FINALLY ARE DRIVING !! One thing I have to say double clutching isnt that bad nor is shifting but down shifting seems to be troubling alot of folks but by the end of the day everyone almost had it down pat including myself. I drove 2 different trucks today and on the old white Freightliner I had trouble down shifting but the maroon Freightliner I had it down pat so maybe it was the truck heck I dont know. Probably more user error than anything haha.

But all in all im enjoying myself and seems like everyone else is. Everyone is moving along nicely not really having any problems. We started our class with 9 and 2 quit. One quit Monday and took another job and the 2nd guy quit Monday cause he thought he wouldnt have to be employed with Millis. He just wanted to go to school there not work there. As far as Hound Dog's progress I dont know I know he was supossed to go Jan 5 but not sure who he is lol. Hounddog if you read this PM me who you are !!!
But guys going into class and guys thinking of going.....take a chance and go ! BUT make sure you have everything and I mean everything done ( physicals, info, etc ) Make sure if your state issuses you multiple licences weather it be normal driving licence or class AP or class A or B or whatever. BRING THEM.......I will add some pictures later today and if I remember something I forgot I will add it in. I will keep this post updated and I hope this helps others out. I know if it wasnt for these forums I would of been lost so its my time to give back and help out. If anyone has any questions post here or PM me I dont mind.
