Was never able to make over $1000 a week at the South Gate, CA terminal. Are you in weekend wrap around or night shift?

Day shift Tues thru Saturday. Struggling to hit that $1000 mark but I don't have as much hustle at my age. My manager is very good about accessorial pay. It just doesn't pay as well as I think it should.

I work Mon - Fri, day shift, daily average 2 live loads, 1 pick up, 100 miles, 1 hour detention for between $850 to $950 a week. Personally I think I should look for another job.

The regional manager explained to me outright that they try to keep everyone pretty much even, spreading the work so there are no favorites and no stragglers. Difference in income is mileage pay for seniority and the occasional extra load for a real go getter. When freight volume goes up, everyone gets more and when it goes down less. Even contractors are kept pretty equal with other contractors based on sharing volume. Not terribly motivating.

When you think about $$ it all corresponds based on position like otr vs dedicated vs regional and local. And pretty much the same most megas. For example, Heartland has always paid higher cents per mile but the miles are low. So the tradeoff is $$ vs hometime and location.

Tanker, reefer, flatbed all pay better than van or container.

To make a significant amount greater you must seek out a specialty and/or a special opportunity. Because there are guys out here who do rake it in but they've found their special niche and gotten that coveted position. That's why my daddy always said, "As soon as you get a job, start looking for the next one." He wasn't a job hopper, he finally found his sweet spot and stayed with it, but it took time for the right opportunity to come along. And he didn't bother jumping from company to company which is like same soup different bowl.

You for real? Is that gross or net, as I'm thinking of doing their intermodal account of there but it's a daily flat rate of 260 night shift.

I imagine 260 night shift in California is comparable to the 200 a day I strive for here in Texas. I had a lousy week this week. I only grossed 830 but sometimes it just goes like that. I'm a little disgruntled by how many darn things can go wrong that don't fall into the exception pay category. A daily flat rate would be sweet but that might lead to the dm getting involved in micro- time management.
The way it is for me here is its a great job.

Although I love this job..it is a true unicorn for me..mostly stress free, steady and somewhat predictable... Because I have decided to move to Corpus Christi, I will have to give it up. Sob. Sniffle.
I've applied to transfer within jbhunt to an otr position out of corpus but its not a great job.

@Chinatown .. Dear guru... Now that I've made up my mind to relocate to Corpus Christi (and not Florida), can you tell me about any good opportunities there either van or tanker? I have hazmat and tanker endorsements. I have retail and bulk fuel experience from a decade ago. The internet has only shown me questionable jobs with the usual suspects..
