How desperate are these companies for drivers? I can’t imagine a guy with 30 day’s experience before bailing would be the best hire.

Good luck to you at Schnieder! You will do just fine there, brother. Don't worry about what the naysayers say about them. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter which company you work for because trucking is all about what you put into it.

Doesn't mean Averitt won't send a driver back out for training if they see fit. You don't see Averitt on Bonehead Truckers or in the ditch much, if at all. There is a company in Missouri somewhere that will send experienced drivers out with a trainer if they've been out of the game for a stretch of time. I was talking with one of their trainers....I can't remember the company name, but they're out of Carthage.

My thought wasn’t so much for the potential of the persons ability, but more so for them being reliable. I do acknowledge that the are events that can make an otherwise reliable person leave early, so in that case Averitt may pickup a good person. I see what you’re saying.

I didn't think of it that way either. I totally get where you're coming from too.

I would go JB, just for the fact that you live near their terminal. This makes the OTR life much better because you have a secure place to park the truck and trailer. Plus if the truck needs a PM you can schedule it on your hometime. Hometime is easier to schedule since you can drop a loaded trailer at the yard and another driver can relay it. Ditto coming back on the road for hometime, you can usually just back up to a dropped trailer and away you go. If the terminal has fuel pumps and/or a truck wash, those are plusses too.

That is a good choice. Others may carry on about starting with a Mega.... Ignore them. The most important thing is to get a solid year under your belt at your first company.... No accidents, incidents, late deliveries, etc. Learn to plan your trips. Do not rely on ANY GPS unit to get you where you are going. Write down your route and follow it. Learn to manage your clock. The first year is tough. You will get lost... It will take you 20 minutes to back into a dock... these are things you need to go through. Take your time..... and GOAL as many times as necessary. Make it through your first year no matter what! You will want to quit a dozen times..... DON'T!! You can do this.... Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm excited! It worked out well because I'm getting a dedicated account that will have me parking closer to my home, right by JB Hunt. Just a 20 minute drive instead of the hour to their Mass terminal.

From what I understand Schneider offers very good training, fair pay for a newb, tuition reimbursement and if you prove yourself they put you in a nice new truck. I hope to be rolling in a 2022 Cascadia this spring. Might switch to tanker after six months of van. We shall see...

Congrats! Take your time, roll with the good and bad. There will be plenty of both. Survive your first year....it will be tough.
